Students on the Creative New Media degree course at the University of Hull are making excellent progress with their selection of inter-actives for the Fears, Foes & Faeries exhibition using the charm collection as their inspiration. This is the third year that we have offered students the chance to install their inter-actives into the Rotunda Museum for our visitors to use. Three of the inter-actives will be selected to feature in the Fears, Foes & Faeries exhibition which opens in March 2012. The aim is that the inter-actives will support the different areas of the exhibition – health, sea at safety and the final will support another element of the exhibition such as witchcraft, faeries or the collector of the charms, William James Clarke. The inter-actives will offer another dimension for visitors to interact with the full exhibition and to engage them in the use of charms and amulets for health and protection reasons.
The student’s work and the creation of these inter-actives form part of the Charmed Lives Project which gives learning and development opportunities to young people in Scarborough. Once these inter-actives have been created, cultiv8 along with members of Scarborough Museums Trust (SMT)and Scarborough Maritime Heritage Centre (SMHC) will review all inter-actives from the past three years and choose three to be developed further by professional inter-active designers.
Part of the student’s module is to record their progress using a blog. All blogs are listed below and each shows the development of their inter-actives from the initial design ideas to showing prototypes of their final design. It is interesting to see how the students have incorporated our tiny charms their stories and beliefs to create fun inter-actives for a range of visitors to use.
